Setting up the show
The stone lamps at Ikku Shrine (thousand year old trees) are now barred up: preparations for the taiko festival. more later.
Tatsuya and Terri helped me set up the show Sunday night. The long narrow picture at the bottom of this blog is a photo piece I included in the show called "Gorinto" or "five-ringed pagoda". A "pagoda" is an eastern kind of totem, tomb, or 3-D mandala. I put up an illustrated explanation of the gorinto a few posts ago, (for those of you who are more interested). Shall I speak of the totemic shape's journey through the history of mankind’s minds? Do you wanna talk about mandalas, and the SHAPES that were created to represent "all of creation"? Shape and Symbol theory, as it relates to Art History, Hermeneutics, Mysticism, and consciousness studies, has been an interest of mine for a long time now. It's also a major theme in my own art. "The Tao of Symbols,” "Crystal and Dragon," "The Twelfth Planet," the Da Vinci Code,” "Up from Eden," “π,” alchemy, cymatics, music theory, and the archetypes, are all premium places to start looking into (and creating in the process) the deeper meanings of symbols. Also, I found Michael G’s essay “Psychoactive Vibes: Light and Sound in Navigating the Spectrum of States”, which you can quickly read here, to be extraordinarily fascinating, meaningful, and deeply profound in its implications, for anyone more interested.
Anybody want me to talk about the new mum album?
