My favorite: "Warning: Reflections in this mirror may be distorted by socially constructed ideas of beauty." LOVE THIS. It's beyond true in so many ways. Yesterday, I overheard an 11 year old girl say "Oh yeah, (insert name of friend here)! I love her, she's so cute!" I guess "cute" makes you more likable? Not nice, not intelligent, not friendly, outgoing, or talented. Cute.
Cute=Beautiful, popular
Not the cutest = ?
Sad, isn't it?
What are we teaching our elementary age girls about themselves as individuals?
