my birthday party

Last night I had my 23rd birthday party (my actual birthday is on the 7th). 15 people showed baring gifts and food and it was wonderful. It was a vegetarian potluck and dance party, ending in a crazy night of Karaoke until 3 AM. And then this afternoon I went to the hardware store with my beautiful friend Mako to research wood and paint prices for frames. If you didn’t know, this June I am having my first one man show at the gallery/music venue/cafe "Ongaku no Isumi" (literally “Music’s spring,” spring as in water spring). The gallery is beautiful and one wall is all windows overlooking a 700-year-old garden. “And the funny thing is,” Mako tells me, “nobody has taken care of the garden for 700 years.”
And you have walk next to the garden to get to the gallery, making the gallery feel kind of like a temple or some sort of sacred place. Now I must clean.

You rascal, the new work is special. Like you said to me on the corner of 9th and Mass. one night, you represent a long line of artists who express the transrational, the universal symbols that express and ignite to and in the viewer a sense beyond verbage.
Of course I fell in love with the new ladder painting. Nice work on the gradations.

I might be coming to Japan next year...

somewhere in the telephone lines crisscrossing rooted by telephone poles all into the same ground, these emanations of electric waves need channels and routes to be effective. in the same way one chooses a path, a discipline, to funnel the life protecting energy we each are granted a share upon birth. it looks like a possible channel for next year will let me use some life energy in nagoya, japan.

your dharma brother,
rick
